Having spent years on the road as a professional/semi-professional musician, Mick Broderick decided to make the move from Dublin, Ireland, to Dublin, OH, where he both teaches at the elementary school level and continues to perform, record, and compose Irish music. With three children of his own, the drive to impart the Irish musical tradition, in which he was immersed from an early age, to the next generation has been overwhelming. So, with the help, guidance, and funding of the Dublin Irish Celebration (original founders of the Dublin Irish Festival), The Dublin Irish Music Academy was founded.
With such an overwhelming sense of “Irishness” that already exists in the Dublin and greater Columbus area, the Academy hopes to move things to a new level in the form of Irish musical performance and enjoyment.
To this end, we are in the process of creating a community of Irish traditional music lovers of all ages that will participate in sessions & sing songs, compete at organized events throughout the Midwest and, someday, compete at the national traditional Irish music competition in Ireland (Fleadh Cheoil). Who knows, perhaps we’ll have a world champion put Dublin, Ohio, on the Irish traditional music map!!
